After School

The BGCEC is proud to be the bridge between school and home for many East County families. A child’s annual membership grants them access to their Club every day after school until 6:00pm and during summer drop-in from 2:00-6:00pm.

The Club isn’t just a place for kids to wait to get picked up. Our Clubs are designed to create community, belonging and a respite for local youth. While at the Club, members have opportunities to interact with peers, participate in fun activities, enjoy a meal or snack, work on homework, receive homework support or mentoring from staff, and participate in our nationally recognized programming.

Programs

A Typical Day After School at the Club:

School is out: The child’s school day ends, let’s head to the Clubhouse!
Get to the Club:
- If they are enrolled in our Transportation program, the member is brought from their local public school to the Club on a school district bus along with other members from their school (transportation is not available at all sites, check with your Club for details).
- If not, they are dropped off at the Club or walk (a chaperoned Walking Club is available at specific locations, please check with your Club for details).
Sign in: Members check in at the front counter with the staff. 
Belongings in cubby: Members place their personal belongings in a cubby. Though all BGCEC facilities are equipped with security cameras, members are encouraged to leave all valuable items at home for safekeeping. 
Check schedule: After belongings are stowed away in a cubby, the member is ready for fun! They check the daily schedule to see what activities are taking place, the room or location of the activity, and the staff running the activity. A new schedule is posted every day, bringing fresh activities for engagement along with it. 
Choose an activity: All activities, with the exception of homework support, change every hour to keep members moving from Club open (about 2:00pm) until closure (6:00pm)! Homework support is available every hour in the homework room.
